The IRC opened the country program in Afghanistan in 1988. Our programs span the range from humanitarian relief to early recovery and development activities, focusing on child protection, education, economic wellbeing, health, and power. The IRC works in 9 provinces throughout Afghanistan, among which some of the most security volatile, and employs over 500 staff.

Job Description

Specific Duties:

  • Read JDs obey the IRC Fleet, safety and security procedures and act accordingly.
  • Understand, respect and obey Afghanistan Traffic rule and regulations.
  • Ensure that the daily vehicle safety inspection is carried out in accordance with the Driver Transport Policy & Procedures.
  • To drive the office vehicle safely for transport of authorized personnel.
  • To carry out daily preventive maintenance, including checking fuel and water check (radiator and wipers), lights, tires pressure, horn and general inspection of interior and exterior of the vehicle.
  • To assist mechanics with vehicle repairing.
  • Ensure that all passengers properly fill vehicle log sheets at the end of each trip and completed log-sheet handed over to Fleet Assistant.
  • To assist loading and unloading of vehicles and perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by his/her supervisor
  • To undertake any other task assigned from time to time.
  • Able to work during the day and do overtime when needed.

Safety and Security:

  • Ensure that the location is known when drives the IRC vehicles and report to the Radio Room of his/her departure, arrival and final destinations all the time.
  • Ensure that each vehicle is carrying a vehicle log sheet, a map of Kabul, First Aid Kit, and Fire Extinguisher and on vehicles board documents are always kept update.
  • To report any accident, damage or defects to the vehicles to his/her supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure proper checking of his/her vehicle after it has returned from repair to ensure that the work it went for has been completed.
  • To ensure that all safety regulations when carrying passengers (e.g., wearing seatbelts, locking doors, is obeyed.
  • To drive safely and carefully, observing speed limits, traffic rules and driving conditions.
  • To ensure that all safety and emergency equipment is present and functioning in the vehicle before conducting any travel.

Technical/ Maintenance:

  • To carry out daily vehicle inspections to ensure full functioning of all systems the vehicle.
  • To identify major defects and maintenance in his/her vehicle and report to his/her supervisor.
  • To ensure sufficient fuel is available in the vehicle tank and required spare parts are also available and vehicles lubricants, oil are not expired.

Other:

  • Any other tasks when requested by his/her supervisor
  • To perform duty beyond office hours, pick up and drop off the IRC staff.
  • To travel to any other IRC bases or provincial security-wise cleared by SSD.
  • Attend and participate in trainings identified/organized by your supervisor
  • Follow any new procedures and guidelines designated in circulars from the Country Director

Job Requirement

  • Current valid Afghanistan driving license
  • Basic technical knowledge of vehicle and generator operations
  • 12 Grade with three years’ work experience as a driver with a safe driving record from an International organization.
  • Spoken and written English skills considered desirable; local language skills (Dari and Pashto) essential
  • Able to operate a computer with some proficiency in Microsoft Word packages (or willingness to learn)
  • Knowledge of city and inter-provincial roads and transport routes
  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent desirable.
  • Drivers training highly desirable.
  • Certificate in AV/B6 an asset.
  • Able to pass IRC driving test.
